Australia National Symbols

Colors and Emblems

Green and gold were proclaimed Australia's national colours by the Governor-General on 19 April 1984. Prior to the proclamation Australia had no official colours.

Since 19 April, 1984, Australia has had a new National Anthem to play and sing at official functions and ceremonies. The song 'Advance Australia Fair' has replaced the Royal Anthem, 'God Save The Queen' as Australia's National Anthem.

The Australian Flag is major national symbol, both within Australia and overseas. It belongs equally to all Australians and anyone in Australia may fly it.
